Since the acquisition of the painting on the cover of this book by the Nationaal Fietsmuseum Velorama in 2005, considerable research has been carried out to establish the history of the artist, the painting and the event which it portrays. This short monograph, 'Joseph Roux and the Course de velocipedes; le depart, 1869' is the result to date of that research.
