James Lansdowne Norton bouwde zijn eerste motorfiets in 1902 toen hij een klein Clement motorblok inbouwde in een 'beefed-up' fietsframe en op de markt bracht als ' Energette'. Gedurende de volgende 23 jaren, totaan zijn vroegtijdige dood in 1925, produceerde hij een reeks 'Flat Tank' motorfietsen van buitengewone kwaliteit en won hij veel races en vestigde hij veel snelheidsrecords.
Dit boek omvat de periode tussen 1902 en 1928 toen de flat tank machines werden gemaakt. Het boek bevat veel nog nooit eerder gepubliceerde foto's, getuigenissen van vroegere rijders en archiefmateriaal.

James Lansdowne Norton built his first motorcycle in 1902 when he attached a small Clement engine into a 'beefed-up' bicycle frame and marketed as the 'Energette' . For the next 23 years, until his premature death in 1925, he manufactured a range of Flat Tank motorcycles of exceptional quality that won numerous races, many world speed records and delighted the owners of these pioneer machines.
This book covers the period between 1902 and 1928 when the flat tank machines were made and features many unpublished photographs, testimonials from the early riders, and archive material.
