As early as 1934, a motocross was organized for the first time in Belgium at the Zoete Waters in Oud-Heverlee, the ‘Motorcross Brabançonne’ under the impulse of, among others, Jacques Ickx, the father of former F1 pilot Jacky Ickx. In the late years from 1947 to the end of 1970, the sound of bikes and the cheering of supporters could be heard in the Wolfsputten (municipal park in 1947) in Dilbeek and the Wereweide in Schepdaal. The whole cross thing is now a thing of the past. The Wolfsputten and the Wereweide are now nature reserves, and nothing reminds of the motocross competitions of that time. Many well-known crossers came to the start in the Wolfsputten. Some names: Roger De Coster, Jacky Wiertz, Walter Baeten, Torsten Hallman (S), Gaston Rahier, Jeff Smith (GB), Harry Everts and Joël Robert. There was also a lot of motocrosses in the neighbouring municipalities. For example, in the village of Vlezenbeek with Felicien De Camps as the local star. In Eizeringen at the ‘Hof ter Mouille’ and in Asse (Putberg) in the early 1950s. In 1949 in Gaasbeek behind the buildings of the Limbourg family and in the somewhat further Jette in the Poelbos, now also a nature reserve. With this book, the author wants to give an overview of the rich motocross past in Groot-Dilbeek until the end of the 1970s.
