JUMPIN’ JACK – HERINNERINGEN AAN JACK MIDDELBURG
WRITTEN BY NATASCHA KAYSER
Who thinks of motorcycle sport in the Seventies and Eighties of the last century, thinks of Jack Middelburg. The motorcycle racer and greenhouse builder from the Westland was an icon, partly thanks to his historic victory in the TT of Assen in 1980 and an impossible win at Silverstone in 1981. Speed was his motive. That gave him great successes, but also a lot of trouble. On April 3, 1984, “Jumping Jack” died at the age of thirty-one of the injuries sustained in a crash on the street circuit of Tolbert.
Family, friends, riders, colleagues, mechanics, sponsors, officials, journalists and others who knew Jack Middelburg well will recall memories of his life on the limit. With, among others, Boet van Dulmen, Kenny Roberts, Franco Uncini, Graziano Rossi, Randy Mamola and Wil Hartog.
