The original book, No. 7 of ‘The Model Engineers’ series, was written nearly eighty years ago. Since then, many changes have taken place and some of the many tools described and illustrated have vanished from the market.
It was clear, therefore, that to have been of immediate use, generally, the subject of the book needed to be completely rewritten using illustrations of modern equipment where needed.
In the present book the emphasis is largely on hand tools, since space would clearly inhibit adequate coverage of even the simplest of machine tools; in any case, they are well catered for elsewhere.
