MOTOCYCLES D’AUTREFOIS – NR. 1
WRITTEN BY CYRIL POSTHUMUS
ILLUSTRATIONS J.W. WOOD ET COLLABORATEURS

Published in 1979

The first designs of motorcycles were based on steam propulsion, the so-called steam bicycles, doomed to perish ingloriously. With the advent of the internal combustion engine in 1885, the motorcycle took on the status of a practical reality. In the early 1900s, the foundations for further progress were laid, among other things, by the retail sale of the complete De Dion Bouton engine for installation and the mass production of the ready-made motorcycles of the Werner Brothers.
This book highlights in particular the ingenuity of the constructors up to 1920, when the industry refocused on better construction after the First World War. The many photographs from that period and the special commissioned colour illustrations elevate this book to a reliable guide through the early beginnings of motorcycle history.
