STANLEY WOODS – THE WORLD’S FIRST MOTORCYCLE SUPERSTAR
WRITTEN BY DAVID CRAWFORD

In the days when the word superstar was virtually unknown, here was a sportsman who could justify that description, especially for his performances in the Isle of Man. Between 1922 and 1939 he entered in thirty-seven TT’s, won ten, retired whilst leading three more and was beaten in three more by a total of 48 seconds. He retired sixteen times, never finished lower than sixth and made eleven fastest laps. He also had an impressive continental Grand Prix record.
