George Watkins had a passion for photographing stationary steam engines. His collection consists of perhaps a couple of thousand photographs and a substantial amount of other details on engines and their makers. Virtually all of these magnificent machines have now been scrapped and this collection is particularly important as a result. Moreover, George’s eye for detail gives us a description of each engine which is unobtainable elsewhere.
