THE ISLE OF MAN TT – AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY 1907-80
WRITTEN BY MATTHEW FREUDENBERG

Published in 1990

For over 80 years the Isle of Man has been the home of the Tourist Trophy motorcycle road races. Every great rider, almost without exception, from Freddie Dixon and Stanley Woods  to Geoff Duke, Mike Hailwood and Agostini, has raced there. Still run over the 37-mile road course first used before World War One and still a major international event, every year the Tourist Trophy races draw to the Isle of Man motorcycle enthusiasts in their thousands. Matthew Freudenberg, a long-life motorcycle racing enthusiast, describes the development of the TT from its conception to the 1980s; from the dusty track in 1907 to the smooth tarmac of today, an era during which lap speeds have risen from around 40 mph to over 120 mph, but the beautiful setting of the course and the skill and dedication of the riders have remained unchanged.
